JANA’S PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL DREAM OF LIFE

CAREER IN HR PART TIME, SELF-EMPLOYMENT AND WORK-LIFE-BALANCE: PERFECT FIT

Our colleague Jana said goodbye to the classic permanent position in a 40-hour week a few years ago. Her part time jobs now adapt to her life, not the other way around. We found this very exciting and let Jana tell us about it herself.

WHO I AM: IN A FEW WORDS

My name is Jana Weis and I have been working at HR factory for about three years. Prior to that, I worked in HR at various companies, including as an HR Business Partner, in recruiting and in L&D. I am also trained as a systemic coach and a business coach.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN: WHY AM I AT HR FACTORY?

When I was looking for a new job in 2019, I had very specific ideas about my future job:

  • a part-time position in HR
  • a challenging and interesting job
  • a great team
  • and above all, an employer that allows me to expand my independence as a career coach and leadership trainer at the same time

HR factory was one of a few – perhaps even the only employer – who met all the requirements at the time and not only tolerated my desire for part-time work, but was immediately open to it without reservation. I am very grateful for that.

MY PART-TIME PROJECT CAREER AT HR FACTORY: NEVER A DULL MOMENT

As a Senior HR Expert, I am currently advising a client in the electrical industry on the topic of employer branding. The goal is to overcome the shortage of skilled workers and to fill open positions more quickly and successfully.

But even before that, I had great, varied projects, e.g. in consulting on recruiting topics, the introduction of bonus systems, or in strategic university marketing. All in all, the last three years have taken me to various companies in the medical research, software and fintech industries and to a municipal energy supplier. There, I represented companies at career fairs and in job interviews, trained executives in interview techniques, and held a partial moderation of large personnel marketing events with over 60 participants, including management.

They were definitely very exciting and varied years in which I was able to contribute a lot of experience and learn a lot at the same time.

PERFECT MATCH FOR THE WORK-LIFE BALANCE: PART TIME AND SELF-EMPLOYED

Currently I work two full days a week for HR Factory, two more days I dedicate to my self-employment as a Systemic Personal & Business Coach and the rest of the week is mine (at least most of the time 😉).

For me personally, this drives to an optimal work-life-balance: despite exciting professional activity, there is time for sports, family, friends, household, etc.. Even a trip around the world, which was not possible in 2019 due to Corona, is still on my agenda.

HR factory was extremely flexible here from the beginning and would offer me a kind of workation/sabbatical also from the road. Thank you at this point for so much openness and support in individual career and life (dream) planning!

PERSONAL CHALLENGES OF PART-TIME EMPLOYMENT: SELF-ORGANIZATION IS ESSENTIAL

Despite all the advantages: Sometimes it’s not always easy to “drop the pen” on Tuesday afternoon and not be back in the (home) office until the next Monday. With good organization, the right topics, advance planning or a bit of flexibility on my part, this can usually be managed super well.
